Battlestar Galactica: Daybreak Part 2

Oh dear god, my face hurts from crying, my hands are still shaking, and my heart is still racing. I think that is the best series finale I HAVE EVER SEEN (and that includes Newhart!), and three of the best hours of television I've ever seen. I'm talking up there with Passion, Becoming 1&2, the last episode of season 3 of The Wire, A Trip to the Dentist, certain episodes of the Sopranos, In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, In Excelsis Deo, Two Cathedrals, and Three Men and Adena.

That was so fucking satisfying I don't even have words. If I smoked, I'd be having a cigarette. God. I was honestly skeptical any of it could be pulled together at all, but man, I tip my hat to Ron Moore, because I am really impressed. Drained and pleased and really, really impressed.

OH LAURA! OH BILL! OH GOD I CRIED SO HARD! SOBBING! I have a huge pile of tissues on the end table next to me.

[eta] I can't believe I forgot the gorgeous, awesome, heartwrenching scene where Laura thanks Doc Cottle. *sob* [/eta]

HELO!

HELO IS STILL ALIVE! I WAS SO SAD when he got shot, and then we didn't see him again, BUT HE'S STILL ALIVE! THE FIGHTING AGATHONS LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY!

ADMIRAL HOSHI! "Lieutenant Hoshi is fine with me. Those admiral's stars are heavy." Oh, Hoshi. And President Badger. Hee!

Racetrack and Skulls! SETTING OFF THEIR WEAPONS BY ACCIDENT!

I am so shocked that we got such a HAPPY, HOPEFUL ending. Okay, that very last scene was hilariously awesome (dude, instead of being nuked by Cylons, we are nuked by Skynet. I'm going to have to watch tonight's SCC at some point this weekend.) and possibly ominous, but everything else was SO HAPPY and BEAUTIFUL and PEACEFUL after such a LONG HARD HORRIBLE JOURNEY. I really expected the death toll to be horrible and high (of characters I care about, I mean; but really, only Laura died, and we knew that was coming from day one), and I'm just really shocked at how not dark and despairing it was, and how earned that happiness feels.

Oh, Boomer! Finally doing the right thing. She owed the admiral one, and she paid it back in full.

Oh, Galactica! "Her back is broken. She won't jump again." "Wherever we are, we're staying." *sniffle*

THE MUSIC! DEAR GOD, THE MUSIC!

SAM FLEW THE SHIP INTO THE SUN! WAH SAM!

TYROL KILLED TORY FOR KILLING CALLY! And fucked the tentative Alliance Baltar talked Cavil into. BALTAR! FINALLY DID SOMETHING GOOD AND HEROIC AND SELFLESS! (though technically I'd say his behavior with Gina was close, but then he had sex with her and gave her the nuke, so it didn't end up being good and selfless and heroic) And head!Six and head!Baltar were actually angels or messengers from god! Or whatever he likes to call himself. Hee!

I love Adama teasing Baltar. And I love how Cavil always brings the humor.

THE EPIC LOVE STORY OF SAUL AND ELLEN! ♥

THE OPERA HOUSE VISION! Six! "I'm proud of you, Gaius. It was the only thing missing."

And Kara! OH MY KARA, PUNCHING IN THE MUSICAL NOTES TO GET TO EARTH (the real earth, despite what Adama said; I KNEW we'd seen Florida when she saw it in Maelstrom). KARA! So was she really an angel too? It's hilarious to me that I never really shipped Kara/Lee, but tonight I was like, I JUST WANT LEE AND KARA TO LIVE ON EARTH TOGETHER AND MAKE FAT HAPPY BABIES TOGETHER! Because they started out broken - they were broken just like that glass of wine when they met and cheated on Zak, but they could have been whole and healed there. Lee is, or will be, with his exploration and his joy and idealism, that we saw was lacking when we go all the way back to the beginning. Lee, if you'd been like this more often, maybe I would have liked you a lot more than I did. You won me back around, though, with your long hair and your talk of seeing what's over the next hill. Sigh.

ILU KARA THRACE, YOU ARE MY TV GIRLFRIEND FOR EVER AND EVER! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN! *sob* OH KARA!

So is she an angel, too?

Oh, the flashbacks, showing us who they were and how far they've come.

They freed the centurions! Hera is our ancestor! Was she the one orchestrating this whole thing?

I have so much LOVE for this show right now! Yes, the show had its low points (second half of season 2, the middle of season 3), but when it's on, it's REALLY FUCKING ON, and tonight it was SO FUCKING ON the off switch was light years away. I am sad that it's over, but really fucking happy and impressed with how it ended. Wow. I am kind of wrung out and boneless with satisfaction.

I will have to do a rewatch soon.

*happy sigh*
