So I just saw the latest SPN casting spoiler.
HOLY FUCK! MAJOR BUNNY COLVIN! Ahem. Robert Wisdom. AWESOME. Apparently
he is playing a remorseless killer? Or possibly an angel? (Uriel is an archangel.) If it's more like the Gaiman-verse (and we know Kripke is a Gaiman fanboy), possibly both at the same time? I mean, partly I am like, "eep, yet another black man cast as an antagonist and killer" but hopefully the presence of Rufus (Capt. Fuller! Mr. X!) will offset that a little. On the upside, Robert Wisdom is a fantastic, dynamic actor. If only Henriksen hadn't been killed. Sigh.
I have to say, of all the things that irritated me about season 3 - and there were a few - killing off Henriksen is tied with how badly they handled Bela as the two things guaranteed to send me into a white-hot rage if I think about them for too long. I am not sure I will ever fully forgive the show for those two missteps. (As always, if you want to slag off on Bela or defend your rabid hatred of her or whatever, don't do it in my comments.)
On the s3 dvds, I did kind of love Ben Edlund's bemusement at the batshit fangirls who can't stand having any women on the show, even when they are not love interests, and even though Edlund himself is on notice after Malleus Maleficarum. Even my great love for him, won by The Tick (and Smile Time and Jaynestown and Nightshifter) was tested by that episode. (And again, I don't want to hear about how that's not why you didn't like Bela or Ruby or Jo, or random girl guest star #12, because I gotta tell you, I find those protestations suspect when the same complaints are made about every single female guest star, which, I've found, is often the case [some people even hate Ellen and/or Missouri, which just does. not. compute.])
I still love my show, though last season made me wary about whether my show wants me as a viewer, but the fandom sometimes wearies me.
And wow, I so did not mean to go there. Mostly I am asquee about Robert Wisdom joining the cast!
