the grass is green and the girls are pretty

On the upside, I have just discovered I had the dates wrong, and BBA isn't going away until the week after next.

On the downside, my boss is making me attend a meeting later. Bah.

I was going to link to all those discussions about coding and warning and what not - barkley, untrue_accounts, and cofax7 all said smart things - but I can't be arsed to track down the actual posts now, and you know they'll turn up on metafandom eventually anyway.

The two posts that I do have open in other tabs and which have made me all thinky-thinky are as follows:

* makesmewannadie: Abbreviated meta: INIWJLEO - on the way some types of incest stories sometimes replicate WNGWJLEO tropes with incest substituting for gayness.

I'd been thinking about the intersection of WNGWJLEO and incest fic from a different angle, but some of what she says makes sense to me, and some of the comments are really interesting.

* flambeau: Pairings, wave theory, interpretive communities - on how some pairings we need justified from the first stirring of desire, while others we can be all, "They're so doing it!" without any need for any backstory or build up at all.

She mostly talks about boyslash, but I think it's applicable to any UC pairing, het and girlslash included.

I also think it's fun to read (and occasionally write) what she calls second and third wave stories about canonical het couples for whom we have little to no backstory - e.g., Eric and Tami Taylor, James and Lily Potter, Arthur and Molly Weasley, Jed and Abbey Bartlet, John and Mary Winchester, etc.

My quest to answer comments has gone completely off the rails, as in, I haven't done any of it, but I did keep up with comments on my last post, so I think I should get some credit. And also, I have done a bit of work-related work. I know! What is this world coming to? *g*
