Who: Derek Barnes - "Freakylinks"
What: Derek reflects on how his brother and him were never apart.
Even as children they were inseparable. Adam and Derek Barnes; brothers and best friends. Born on the same day. Born with the same parents. Some claim that twins are able to communicate through a special bond called "Twin Speak." Be it some psychic connection or a mere coincidence, the two were always able to finish each other's sentence, or know what one another was thinking.
Both Adam and Derek were identical, their parents often had a hard time telling one another apart and the siblings purposely confused their mother and father for amusement. But one day, Adam had fallen hard on the asphalt while playing outside their home. A gash had appeared on the side of his head and the blood trickled down with the pain throbbing in his temple. Worried for his safety, Derek called for his mom who immediately rushed her son Adam to the hospital.
Since that day, the two brothers now had separate identities. Whenever someone wanted to know who was who, you'd just see the slight scar on Adam's head and know.
Even as twenty-something adults, the two were rarely apart. Though they'd grown interested in separate things; Adam the occult and Derek surfboarding, the brothers both lived in Florida and mere miles away. Shortly after Adam borrowed five hundred dollars from Derek in order to open up a business-- or so he'd liked to call it-- the two began working together and Derek was his brother's investigator for their Paranormal Investigation.
Even after Adam's sudden death, Derek still felt as though his brother was lingering around, unseen or in the distance watching. He'd always know when Adam was calling on the phone, and often Derek would pick up and wait for an answer. Though the line was dead and there was no other voice responding, Derek knew. He knew Adam wasn't really gone from this world. The twin connection told him otherwise.
