Elena is a socialite in New York City, the youngest in her family of philanthropists and businessmen. The only girl and unmarried disappointment to her parents, she holds a PhD in Biology (human anatomy and physiology), and is running secret experiments on reanimating dead tissue, altering brain patterns, extending life, etc.
She may be a descendent of Victor Frankenstein, in which case the story is a sort of family embarrassment, which they've spent a fortune on ensuring that the world thinks it's fictional. She might also just be her own gal, I haven't decided which yet.
