Since I've yet to find a Bookaholic Anonymous group, I've been doing my best to curb my book spending habits by purchasing used books. Mostly, I use Amazon for the convenience. However, recently I stumbled upon a couple of great (or at least so far in my shopping experience) sites for used books:
Green Earth Books - Thriftbooks.comBetter World Books Both websites do their part to donate to various literacy causes and to work in community outreach programs. Of the two, Better World Books seems to do the most. BWB donates a book to various programs for every book you purchase. On top of that, BWB also adds a few cents to the cost of each book, which is then donated to wind energy organizations to reduce carbon emissions.
Oh, and the best part is that shipping is free on both websites if you just want standard shipping! While I love Amazon and Half Price Books, the shipping charges for each used book can be a killer. I tend to buy books in large groups, so this really jacks up the cost of each purchase for me.
I'll let you all know how my experience turns out when the books start coming in!
