[Book] Stonewall by David Carter

I finally finished up Stonewall: The Riots that Sparked the Gay Revolution tonight. Basically, it was a fabulous read about incredibly brave, marginalized people who'd had enough. What I found most interesting about it was all the contributing factors to the riot. Carter makes a case that this event could not have happened anywhere else, and his argument is a compelling one.

I would recommend it to anyone who is into LGBT* history. And if they idea of a history book freaks you out for whatever reason, you may be relieved to know that it reads much more like a novel. And if the thought of reading is too much to bear, there was also a documentary based on the book (I believe) called Stonewall Uprising done by PBS.

If they ever let me teach my own courses at a university, you can bet that this book will be on the reading list. It's just too good to pass up.

And now onto another book. I'm thinking of diving into And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS epidemic by Randy Shilts. Oh yeah, I got some feel good reading going on here...

reading: it's a thing, books
