I usually listen to mellow female vocalists- like Lorenna, Enya, Sarah Brightman etc... when I paint. It felt really good, switching my musical background noise. Pink Floyd felt like that "Angry Masculine" energy that I really needed to get in touch with and express- very powerful!
If you ever want to take the 'angry masculine' a step further, try listening to some Tool while painting. Dark and powerful, yet complex and spiritual too. Most of the band members met in art school.
I've never even listened to Tool. I've heard about them, though...just never followed through on it. I'm intrigued by your explanation of their music! :-)
