I'm glad to say I now have post-college full-time work. I am an apprentice optician at Pearle Vision off of Sawmill Rd. Getting benefits is definitely nice, and I will also get commisions once I get the hang of all the varied insurances Pearle uses. I also get benefits and free eyewear every year, 401k, retirement, etc. And once I get licensed, that'll be an automatic sizeable pay jump, so that'll be cool. My cousin Josh is the newly promoted manager of the Polaris location, so it's nice to see a friend's face at work from time to time. Maybe in the future I'll even get to work with him/for him. Brent has also recently changed majors; he'll be done a year sooner and have a guaranteed job when he finishes (his degree will be as a Medical Technician... just looking at area hospitals, every one has multiple openings and most have signing bonuses), so he's feeling really good about that, and so and I.
My mom is already feeling somewhat slighted by Kyle's new wife, and they've barely been married for a month! Mom's insulted that whenever we get together for dinner, which lately has been once a month if we're lucky, Beth whips out her papers to grade (she's a 2nd grade teacher at Mark Twain) and works while we eat and socialize. I never really cared that much, but in retrospect I guess I can understand where Mom's coming from. Brent and I both agree it's kinda rude behavior. Plus I think Mom is kinda hurt that the happy couple make time for a weekly Sunday brunch at her Mom's house and we don't see them often. Mom suggested to Beth last week when we were at their house for dinner that Beth try cooking with a pressure cooker. Beth's response was "Why the hell would I use a pressure cooker when I don't even know what the hell it is?" Mom was not pleased by this response, especially since Kyle did not try to admonish her in the slightest even though he was sitting right there listening. I'm not even a practicing church-goer like Beth and I would NEVER speak like that to my future mother-in-law. So so far, this does not bode well. We'll see I guess...
