Ever seen cauliflower ear?

Have you ever thought about getting into wrestling or other forms of grappling to build strength and or improve your over all health, or maybe put some of that beef you've been packing on up to this point to good use? Well if you do, you may hear the term "Cauliflower Ear" from time to time. As it turns out for me, all that training at the gym in grappling has led me to start developing cauliflower ear. In case you're wondering what cauliflower ear is, it's basically what Wikipedia says:

Cauliflower ear (complication of hematoma auris, perichondrial hematoma, or traumatic auricular hematoma)[1] is a condition that occurs when the external portion of the ear suffers a blow, blood clot or other collection of fluid under the perichondrium. This separates the cartilage from the overlying perichondrium that supplies its nutrients, causing it to die and resulting in the formation of fibrous tissue in the overlying skin. As a result, the outer ear becomes permanently swollen and deformed, resembling a cauliflower.

Cauliflower ear isn't something that can't be treated. One option you have is to have the blood drained out of it with a syringe when it's still fresh. I talked to a guy at work who said he had it pretty bad but took a trip to the doc's and he cut his ears open and scraped out all the dry blood. For some guys it's a badge of honor, or an achievement if you will.

So yeah anyways, here's what mine looks like so far. Looks like I'm gonna be wearing ear protection from now on :D

For whatever reason, I can't get the pic to save when I've rotated it right side up, so don't mind the rotated version here. Mine is really nothing. If you want to look for more severe cases, just do an image search for it. But be warned, I did and the pics aren't pretty.
