Monday, Monday and Tuesday, Tuesday

Dec 12, 2007 12:00

Believe it or not, yesterday we set a record high temperature of 81.
It's December, it's almost Christmas. There's a massive ice storm in
the Midwest and we can wear shorts. It's all very odd. However, it
does remind me of the some of the first winters I was here and I was
wearing shorts to take my finals. While I do like the fact that I am
saving money on my heating bills, I am finding it very hard to get into
the Christmas spirit with it being so warm out. So my Christmas
decorations consist of a wreath on my door and some garland on my
bannister. That's it.

It was kind of tough to go back to work on Monday after a weekend that
was taken up with Faire auditions. I would like to have at least one
weekend before going home for Christmas where I don't have to do
anything and then I can really focus on getting the house in order. I
admit that I am a little embarrassed by how bad it looks in some rooms.
This weekend should be better for that. While I do have a meeting on
Saturday (that's just tentative), it shouldn't last all day and I
really should be able to get stuff done. Heck, I'll settle for getting
laundry put away/unpacked and hung up at this point. I guess I should
just break it down into small tasks that are easily completed instead of
letting myself get overwhelmed with the enormity of what I need to do.
But that would be smart.

I did take one step towards cleaning the house last night. I finally
put together my vacuum cleaner and cleaned the floors. I haven't had
carpet pretty much the entire time I've lived here in NC. It was kind
of amazing to me how much stuff there was in the carpet. Yuck. Thank
goodness I got one of those easy empty containers. I wound up emptying
it twice while cleaning both up and downstairs. I think I need to take
it back out and put on the little attachment and clean the oriental rug
since the main cleaner tends to want to suck up the fringe and all that.
Mr. Felix did not appear to like the vacuum. Though it is much quieter
than the dirt devil min-vac that I have, so I don't know what his
problem his. But then again, he is afraid of my wheelie luggage so who
knows what goes on in his little head.

Needless to say the place does look somewhat better. Next step,
actually mopping the floor and cleaning the bathroom. And putting away
laundry. I really would like to have the family room unpacked by this
weekend. My co-worker could use the boxes. Then I need to rearrange
the pantry. Ugh! Though if I pick up a few of those wire basket things
you put on the insides of doors, it shouldn't be that bad. I'd also
like to hang up the clocks in the kitchen and family room and a few
other things on the wall. You know, make it look homey and all that
jazz.

So that was Monday and Tuesday was a little bit more exciting or at
least a bit more social. I thought I had gotten a lot of stuff done for
my class on Thursday. Well, I did, but I found out that I have to
regroup and do some different things today. Sigh! Tuesday night I
wound up not getting anything done at the house since I went out to
Durham to support one of my friends in a salsa-off competition. The
sauce, not the dance. Apparently, the week before, he challenged the
bartender to a salsa contest. So off we went to support him. I have to
say that I did think his salsa was better and the free tacos were pretty
nice too. I had been hoping to get some darts in, but that didn't
happen instead I just hung out and talked with friends. And definitely
talked way too much about things. Silly me. Oh well. But I also did
find out that Janera can watch Felix while I'm away for Christmas. So
that will save me boarding him. Which will be really, really nice and
save me a lot of money and hassle.

I'm just hoping that I will be able to get home alright since silly me
booked my flights through Chicago on the way home and St. Louis on the
way back. When it's 90+ out when you make your reservations, you're not
really thinking about winter and the very real possibility that the
weather will be bad and I might spend Christmas in an airport. Sigh.

I have to say that it is still warm out, however, that is all supposed
to change tomorrow. I believe the winteryish or at least weather more
appropriate for Dec. will come back and maybe we will get some rain. I
certainly hope that we do.

Ok, time to go back to work.
