Please, wander ye under the cut:
Okay, so, with a title like "Slash Fiction," I knew it was going to be interesting. When I found out there'd be double the Winchesters, double the fun, I thought it would have to be brilliant. Then I saw the promo pics with Crowley in them, and I thought I was going to die.
I was late to the television, so I might've missed something, but, I must say, I'm a little disappointed. Not nearly enough overt homoeroticism, even from Crowley -- who was only in the last couple of minutes, anyway -- and I sort of had to interpret some things, which I generally don't have to do. And there was a love interest for Bobby, but I thought that that was just adorable and it gave me warm fuzzy feelings.
I think I get why they titled it "Slash Fiction," though, since they're well aware of fandom, and they know what a slash fan is, and, presumably, what slash fanfiction is. A slasher film is full of horror, blood, gore, etc. Two very close terms meaning very different things, and, so, they make themselves a marvelous little pun. Though I do admit, in terms of puns in episode titles, this one works very well -- I put it up there with "Lazarus Rising," "Point of No Return," and "The End" in terms of awesome titles. I certainly knew there was likely not going to be much in the way of slashy goodness; but still, I was hoping for just a little bit more.
Since this is SPN, though, there was at least one moment that stood out to me as a Destiel shipper; the scene in the car, where Sam turns on the radio, and it's a station that Dean usually doesn't like, but Dean stops him from turning it off and winds up singing along to the song until it gets awkward and Sam curls up in the corner of the passenger seat. The song had something to do with a lover who'd gone away, and it was soft and sad and sweet. Like any good Dean/Cas fangirl, I leapt upon it -- clearly, Dean is singing along (and looking most affected, too, by said song) because he misses him his angel. It's one of those things that I see when the slash goggles are permanently welded to my head...But I love me my Dean/Cas, and will not give up the ghost -- I won't believe Cas is dead...ever. He's died and come back way too many times for it to be permanent. I won't even believe it when we see wingshadows on the pavement, which hasn't happened yet.
On other matters, though, the episode was absolutely awesome. I love LeviDean and LeviSam (and just noticed "Levi" is an anagram for "Evil") so hard it's ridiculous. Go, Jensen and Jared, for playing characters who know your characters and are perfectly willing to bitch about their ridiculous damaged-ness. That diner scene, where LeviSam says that Sam's meal tastes like self-righteousness had me in stitches. I'm definitely interested in the Leviathans as villains -- they're of Crowley-level intelligence and (nearly) BAMFness.
Speaking of Crowley: NO! BAD DEMON! Go make nice with your crush. If anything, you should know by now that the Winchesters always win, and therefore, you should be hanging with them. Jesus, you're handing yourself the idiot ball if you try to deal with monsters bigger than you about the Winchesters, who are already going to kill them.
And, Boss Man Leviathan, you totally burned Crowley right there. I give you props for that. That takes balls -- and you totally threw him off there. Thumbs up!
Also, Bobby: you're too freakin' awesome, man. Using Browning to explain to LeviYou the reason you haven't given up yet, and why, under that gruff and bleak exterior, you still have got hope...Wonderful. And then you took off his head. And gave it to your love interest to throw in a river. Which, as far as SPN gestures of affection go, that's really kind of cute. *shrugs*
As for the love interest herself, I really like her. Probably because the story doesn't take up half the episode, and she's accidentally useful and doesn't die at the end.
Speaking of love interests who died at the end, I'm glad to see the Amy thing coming back to bite Dean in the ass. I knew it was coming, but I think it's genius that they've made the LeviDean tell Sam that Dean killed her -- awesomesauce. And I'm not surprised Sam left. I'm wondering how long it's going to take Dean to get him back this...time...
WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE.
This means...Cas is dead...Sam has left...Dean's pretty much adrift. He's not even driving the Impala, either. Shit, this kind of sucks.
But it'll make for good fic, won't it? Yesssss...
Okay, that's all for tonight.
