It is inevitable that two birds will eventually perch side by side on a line
With so many birds and so little line, it is just a matter of time before two perch
Fitting so perfectly beneath the others wing
Admiring the perch together, preening together
Another beak to coo with

It is inevitable that feathers get ruffled
By one thing or another, we all have our things
And this incident can be quick to ruffle another so close
And side by side, the birds will continue to ruffle
A chemical reaction producing toxic results, over and over
From one to another
Forever, if such a condition so permanent existed

And so they have perched painfully apart to preen themselves
While they long for each other so fucking badly
They slowly un-ruffle themselves
A tensed muscle relaxing

But it is [so] easy to rush the un-ruffling, I am so impatient
And any ornithologist would agree
How in this delicate time
They could easily perch together again in time
Just as easily as they could fly away from the pain

But these things take time to tell
And anyone with a heart would agree that the healing and the waiting
Is painful. It aches. It hurts.
Underneath the wing it was so warm

And it will be warm again in time
Will it be warm again?
These things take time to tell
And that is all we can do.
