So since I worked for 23 days straight without a break, somehow I got persuaded to take a disorganized trip to Chicago (specifically, the Stranger House) for a Superbowl party. Which was quite an amazing experience. Apparently Aaron's family own's some sort of weird meat production facility, so we had buffalo burgers and elk brats (wasn't wild on the burgers, but the brats were pretty damn great). Also, the number of people at the party with any football knowledge was great: 3. Lastly, Paul and I drank for 12 hours straight (and heard some kind of funny story involving Todd, unidentified pills, and Paul's Mom).
Probably the nicest bit was the morning recovery, where we headed out for breakfast and a stop at Reckless Records. I must say, I pride myself on my knowledge of current events, but I almost feel intellectually intimidated by Aaron and Gourse. Both of whom are equally well informed, but will sooner or later have PhDs. Unlike many other college students (myself or many people from the UW), when asked their topic of study, the broad topic of history just doesn't cut it. And because of this, I have been given a pile of books on the American policy decisions that led to the decline of Detroit and Oakland (but not the decline of Chicago or NY, which fell back on the international financial industry to recover). Also, this all relates to Gourse's hopeful placement with a PhD around the country.
Also, the three bands related to the house (The Stranger, Deals Gone Bad and the Peelers) all have upcoming shows in Madison, at which point, the party will resume.
