So anyone that frequents James' house will know of the one lane bridge that crosses over the river near his house. You may also know of the very long red light there and how it goes through its paces, even in the dead of night.
I heed this light with varying degrees of caution depending on many variables such as time of day, weather, traffic, and my mood. Tonight was one of those nights wherein the light was yellow and I decided, "What the fuck. It's 3 a.m. , I can see all the incoming traffic (none), and the light is yellow so I can probably make it through and even if I don't who is going to care that I ran a red light on a one way road in the middle of the night?"
Apparently, this one police man seemed to care and he let me know it. I understand where he was coming from. To his eyes, I blatantly ran a red light right in front of him and I didn't care. I was just some asshole kid to him.
When I ran the light I noticed a car behind me decided to do the same thing and then I noticed that it was getting awfully close to me and then I noticed it had nice blue lights on top of it. I pulled over and he took his usual cop time to run my plates and basically make sure I was pissing my pants or something. They really do love to make you wait...then he came up to me and proceeded to ask questions in a manner that I was forced to ask him to repeat himself. Meanwhile, he kept pacing around my car and looking in all the windows. It was dreadfully clean because I just got a repair job done. He asked me where I came from. I said "my friend's house". To which he replied, "what's your friends name?" as if I am making it up. I hate when people do this because it doesn't matter what name I say you aren't going to know who it is. I paused for a moment before replying with James' name. He shined his light on my hat that I had taken off and placed on the passenger seat (I didn't want to seem disrespectful to him.) He asked for my license and registration.
The last time I was pulled over I immediately got my license and registration out because I knew he was going to ask for them. On later examination I figured this was probably stupid because you are basically telling the cop, "I get pulled over all the time. I know the drill." So this time I did not do that and it seemed to work because this time I only got a warning and the last time I got a straight up ticket.
What really sucks is that I'm pretty sure the cop just pulled out of the station to do his nightly rounds or something, so if I had left an minute earlier I would have been able to run that light no problem, but then again it probably would have been green.
Long story short: From now on I stop at that stupid, stupid light no matter what time of day it is.
I always get caught doing stupid things because I'm not used to doing them...
