Hair today, gone tomorrow

Got my hair done on Saturday. My stylist took almost 4 hours as I had to get the full treatment: (1) highlights redone; (2) shampoo, then the dryer; (3) highlights colored sangria, remaining hair dyed back to almost-black (it was getting a little light due to my past color experimentations); (4) sit under the dryer again; (5) shampoo and a ( Read more... )

Thank you! I was glad that we went out that night. Would have been a shame to waste a perfectly good blowdry. :)

No kidding, right? Any secrets? I use Redken's color extend shampoo & conditioner, and when the color starts fading I'll alternate with one of their color shampoos.

I don't bleach! I refuse to bleach.. my stylist uses redkens dermanent color or something something.. i forget.

ooh.. i read about that shampoo! i was going to go get some, but too lazy so i just bought john frieda's deep red line :P and my stylist told me not to wash my hair in warm to hottish water.. she said try to stay on the lukewarm side because hot water will open up the pores and the color will come out faster.

I actually don't know if I bleach or not. She uses Redken on me, so it might be the same stuff?

Sultry!

Did they have to bleach your hair before putting in the red highlights? I love red hair, but just don't want to torture my hair to get it...

Yep. The first step is to lift the color from your hair. Mine was almost blonde when she was done. Then she put the red over that. There's no way to get color to show up on our hair otherwise.

I've been highlighting for years now and my hair is healthy. The trick is to not switch the positioning of your highlights too much. If you just stick with a particular pattern, the stylist can go in and just bleach the new growth when needed. The damage gets done when you bleach, add a highlight color, you don't like it and dye it back to black, then later you bleach it again, etc.

I know. It's the longest I have ever been in there. Luckily I only have to do a visit like this once, maybe twice a year. Much less time for the normal visits.
