Okay then.

I'm using my adorable Owly and Wormy icon because I need a bit of sweetness in my life right now, because the news has been abysmal this week.

Partially because of that, Mr. 42 and I finally started watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel last night, and it is absolutely brilliant: phenomenal writing, superb cast, sharp direction, sumptuous production values, and funny funny funny. I look forward to being utterly enchanted.

Music prep proceeds apace. The Tallis is nearly ready. The Willan Missa Brevis is nearly ready. The Willan anthem is still weird, but it is more in my ear than it was before. The rhymthms are flowy, so direction is going to be key in pulling it off successfully. I also revisited Harris's Faire is the Heaven for Michelmas next week, and I'm very glad I did because holy shit I'd totally forgotten how it wanders between tonalities. I think listening to it a few times will help as well as pounding notes. I have neglected the Darke mass that we're singing for that, too, but I have a week to work on it, so I'm not going to beat myself up too much about it.

In other news, Mr. 42 got me a very sweet belated anniversary card with golden retrievers on it. I had a tiny inward "hmmph" because the sentiment the card said, in paraphrase, that spending time with me was his favorite thing. This, despite having left me on my ownsies Tuesday night in order to attenend what I'd thought was a co-workers-only bottle share. Turns out it was actually an open event, but I still wasn't invited. Maybe he thought the invitation was understood? Or he just assumed I didn't want to go when I came home and collapsed on the bed? *shrugs* I know this is residual post-summer crankiness, which is why the "hmmph" was both tiny and inward. I'm also having some annoying issues with the girly bits, which isn't helping my mood. Here's hoping the fix I'm implementing works.

Tonight it's Heavenly Choir rehearsal, and since I was a bit crunched for time last Thursday, I opted to drive to work today to save time. Sadly, this means a second day in a row of no writing progress. But being somewhat inundated by Important Nonfiction About Current Events, I think my brain is thirsty for fiction, so I might give one of my many excellent birthday books a shot in an attempt to relocate my writing mojo. And if that doesn't work, all I'll have done is spent a few days enjoying a fun new read, so I don't think there's a downside, really. I'm pretty sure Tomi Adeyemi's "Children of Blood and Bone" will be the one. I do hate to start an incomplete series, but she absolutely delighted me at Comic-Con, so I'm planning to make an exception. The only other exception I've made was for Patrick Rothfuss (who also delighted me at Comic-Con), so you can imagine.

Okay, I'm going to go hang flyers at work because I'm entering burrito coma.

Smooches to All!
