...the clothes you saw on the school netball courts on a Friday night are still there after midday on Saturday!
Either that or a very fashion conscious neighbourhood.
Had dinner with
mashugenah &
stephanie_pegg at the Reading food court and then watched The Worlds Fastest Indian with Steph. Certainly a feel good movie, the New Zealand scenes so nostalgic for those who knew New Zealand inn the seventies , it has all the hallmarks of Disney but a bit raunchier, and it has a motorbike,
Many people helped Bert Munro (Anthony Hopkins) along the way, and Bert himself reminded me strongly of Ele's father, Bill, both physically and in the way he spoke about things. It's got quite good realism, on a couple of ocassions Bert says things which he obviously thinks are deep and meaningful and they come out quite obvious and silly. I believe this was on purpose, not just because of poor scriptwriters!
And even though he's an old guy who's got a lot of annoying habits, like drinking tea laced with titanium, he gets sex in his movie! Including screwing Annie Whittle. Her and Tim Shadbolt were the two most jarring parts of the movie, and luckily the annoyingly cute kid got left behind when he went to Bonneville. Bonneville, was that what Jeff Smith was thinking of when he wrote Bone?
For once American policemen are actually portrayed as human as well. Even though they tell Bert off for sleeping on the side of the road and driving at 150 mph, there is no clichéd extortion and he doesn't even get a ticket. And the scene where a G.I. on leave that Bert gives a ride to is talking casually of the Agent Orange they're spraying around in 'Nam... even though it's a feel-good movie, it is full of little things like that.
Saw a pile of peeps as we were leaving.
Walking back to the station afterwards there was an interesting glow to the western sky, the sun had long set but still a blue glow spread out form the hills creating a wonderful backdrop for the lights of the towers. All along the waterfront, on a balmy spring night, many couples were taking advantage of the relative darkness to get closer, and I got a friendly smile from a skater chick the third time she passed me as she cruise along the waterfront on her board txting away.
Another early night that ended up being not that early after another bout of IM and mails with people.
While that was going on got to watch some very bondage oriented metal videos, the most impressive being (at least from the amount of bondage in it) being Shake Your Blood by a group called Probot, which had fireplay as well as whipping. The lead singer, a sort of Country & Western looking dude, had two large round scars on his left cheek, like he'd been stubbed by a cigarette or been shot though it. There was also the standard Black Rebel Motorcycle Club stuff and the fun 8-Foot Sativa clip
