I don't think I've ever wanted to kill anyone - fictional or otherwise - as much as I want to kill Sam Winchester at this moment. Because, Sam, honey, that family you think Dean's always wanted? It's not some woman he slept with once thirteen years ago. It's not that kid that may or may not be his. It's you, you assbutted dickbomb. You, who pushed him into that life and then decided to pull him out of it when it was convenient for you. You, who get the kicked puppy look when he says he doesn't want to go back because he wants to protect the people you forced (I say forced because we all knew Dean would grant Sam his dying wish, even if Sam seems incapable of the same courtesy) him to stay with.
Sam, darling, I truly want to REACH THROUGH MY FUCKING TV SCREEN AND BEAT YOU TO A BLOODY PULP.

Aaaaaaanyway, theories. I haz them.
1) This has been my pet theory since the moment we started getting spoilers for this season: Dean's dead. He died after Samsifer fell in the hole, his body broken and his spirit shattered. He died, and Cas died and Bobby died and Sam died. Everyone died. Hell, maybe Dean even died before that, and Lucifer took over the world. Think what you like, but the end result is the same: Dean is dead. Dead and in Heaven, which has changed since Chuck's return. Heaven is now whatever you want it to be, and for Dean it's denial. He's not dead, as far as he knows, because it couldn't have ended like that. So he's imagined up Lisa and Ben (or they're dead, too) and he's fit into this life. But he needs to come to terms with what happened, and Sam, Samuel, Gwen, Christian, Marksha, Bobby, and Cas are going to help him do that. One hunt at a time.
2) Sam is Lucifer and he doesn't know it. Stockholm Syndrome, yo! Or some weird brain-merging, MFEO thing. Whatever. Reasons for the theory: Sam refused to take the Impala (probably because it caused his downfall, what with the toy soldier and the flashbacks and what not). As they were exiting Lisa's house for the final time (when Sam refused to take the car) we see red flowers (OMG, Samifer's rose bush!) and white support beams (OMG! Red and white together = Lucifer!). Also, what was with that fucking hug, Samifer, you douchenozzle!?!
3) When EVERYONE is a shapeshifter, you can truly TRUST NO ONE.

I MISSED THIS SHOW. THERE WASN'T AS MUCH IN-SHOW EXCITEMENT FOR ME THIS TIME, BUT THERE WAS STILL EMOTION. SOCK MONKEY-CRUSHING FITS OF RAGE. I NEARLY PUNCHED THE TELEVISION.
SHOW, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH now bring back my Marksha and all will be forgiven!!!!!
