Discussion 1 - use of multiple sources in the promotion of a television channel

When I started vidding I became more and more aware of itself use and practical application in the entertainment industry. Even more so lately, I've noticed that channels have begun using promotionals to advertise their channel. I know HBO, PBS, and Film 4 do for sure. Hmm. That's really interesting. I think fannish multi-vids have lots in common with these "professional" promotionals. The promos seem to pause longer to give certain sources more time.

Wow. I never thought of it that way. I supposed it's because they are trying to sell something, as opposed to the fannish vids.

In someways I agree, but some fannish vids do try to "sell" in the sense that they want you to watch the source. Like pimping vids that try to get poeple into the fandom.

True. Some vids try to sell themselves in the sense that they want you hooked in the first few seconds, so that you'll continue watching.

There are still many things in common, like the use to parallel.

HBO & Showtime have always really excelled at the fanviddish promo.

Another HBO promo. I love how this one uses fade to blacks with the music, like pulses. Also uses typography.
