Discussion 1 - use of multiple sources in the promotion of a television channel

Sep 11, 2007 15:56

When I started vidding I became more and more aware of itself use and practical application in the entertainment industry. Even more so lately, I've noticed that channels have begun using promotionals to advertise their channel. I know HBO, PBS, and Film 4 do for sure. How many of us have seen the HBO promo with Deadwood, Six Feet Under, and other shows edited together? How many have seen the PBS Great Performances ad that mixes together artists? How many have watched Film 4's mashing of movies to promote their new channel? I've seen these ads and thought, "that's what we do".

I thought it would be interesting to begin a discussion post to talk about the us of multiple sources in the promotion of a television channel. What are your thoughts? Who makes them? How do they make them? How do they compare to the fannish works that we produce? How do they contrast? Any question or comment is welcome. I would love to participate in an open discussion.

I've uploaded 2 of these promotionals from Film 4 and FX, but there are plenty more, so upload or link to as many as you'd like.
