The first stormy night of the season...

...And I got my wish to spend it in a room with a crazy person a mentally unawares person, some questionable 18th and 19th century novels, and the travel channel seemingly running a "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" marathon.

Life is kind of nice right now.

Not sure how tonight's gonna be, though. :(

I started reading "Northanger Abbey", too, because I remember it mentioning a lot of books I've read or have on my wishlist. I can't tell whether Austen is going to great lengths to be painfully sarcastic, or whether she really means any of this shit about women doing everything for men, being so subjective to men, etc. I can't help but laugh and think "R u srs, Austen bb?" Parts where the author intercedes are obviously making fun of the gothic genre, so it would seem these parts about women must also be sarcasm, but some jabs seem a lot more subtle (and therefore a lot more questionable) than others. None-the-less, hearing two fashionable, slightly mindless (so they seem) young women talk about books, asking expectantly:

"but are they all horrid, are you sure they are all horrid?"

Is pretty fucking hilarious.

On another slightly morbid note: I used to have dreams that my old babysitter's husband died (which were pretty gory and traumatic considering their family was an extension of my own for a long while, kind of like a 3rd set of grandparents). I would have them over years, until I thought about it one day, did some searching, and realized I had my last dream about him a few months after he really did die. I haven't had any more since then...

Then about a week ago I had a dream my old babysitter herself died, luckily I don't remember much more about the dream than that. But it makes me wonder whether this theme isn't going to continue onto the next spouse until she does die, too. :(

dreams, books
