This kind of thing has been bugging me for a while too -- and I work as a graphic designer in the advertising industry. The first time I noticed it, it seemed like a mistake. But, after seeing it a few dozen times, I realize it's deliberate; it's highly unlikely any designer would make an error like that and have proofreading not catch it, nor is it likely that a designer would not know who's names line up with the actors. My guess is that there's an underhanded psychological reason for it that some marketing guru has implemented. Then again, I've never worked on a movie poster, so I couldn't tell you for sure.

They're unrelated. Left to right, the poster/DVD cover has listed the main cast in the order of which they think the actors are the coolest. Keke Palmer plays the titular character in the film, which warrants her name getting on the cover, but nobody knows her, so she's in the back. Next in line is Morpheus, and Stella of Groove Retrieval.

As for the faces, we've established that Cowboy Curtis is our main man here. In contrast, to show importance graphically he needs to be centered. then we have our other two faces who can go on either side to get equal weight. Since Keke is the main character and we feel mildly guilty about shafting her in the text above, she can have the left. And to make up for all the above Lawrence Fishburne fanwank we can restate who the movie is really about by having a waist-up shot of Keke as Akeelah in the lower half.

It can be disorienting though, I know.
