After some much hard deliberations, I've decided what I am going to do with this journal. At first I thought I might use it to talk about my exploits at work, but I can't make for all intents and purposes a 'desk job' sound interesting most of the time. I'm just not that good of a writer nor can I come up with enough different things to write about here on any given day or week. So I decided to split it between work and the different animes I am watching. I'm not making any formal reviews so there will be no scores, nor will this be all new anime. Maybe I will be writing about something I am re-watching or something that is new to me but been out in the US for years. One thing I won't be doing is talking about shows that aren't licensed in North America. I am a firm believer and supporter of the North American anime industry. I have well over 900 DVDs that I have either bought or been given to me for varies projects I've been involved with over the years. Well enough about that on to the fun stuff!!!!
I have mixed feelings when I see shows on FUNimation's S.A.V.E. (Super, Amazing, Value, Edition) line. I mean who can pass 30 dollars or less for an entire series, but at the same time its sad to see them on S.A.V.E. which also generally means it sold poorly and FUNi is trying make-up some of the money lost on the show and to keep cash flow moving. Anyways I ran into both the first and second season of "Kodocha". I know its one of FUNi's older properties, and I've been debating over the years about getting it in one of its many box-set releases, but I never did till now.
I decided to pop it in as something light to watch before bed. I have to say this show is one of the biggest crackfests of a show I've seen in awhile. It's a more organized crackfest then a show like "Pani Poni Dash!" or "Excel Saga". Perhaps it be better to say its a show on one helluva sugar high. I mean its not only off the walls its off the ceilings as well. Almost all the scenes are handled as a race in the Indie 500, but its not as if the show is trying to cover a lot of ground really fast; its just trying to add a sense of chaos to the show, if that makes any sense at all! I give Laura Bailey credit; only she could pull of the energy required to bring the main character Sana to life. I wouldn't have been surprised if she almost passed out in the recording booth on some of the lines she had to pull off. Since this shows been out for awhile I'll save the time of writing what the story is about since I think most people know what the show is. I only got through 3 episodes or so of it last night, but I am pleased with it so far and plan to watch some more of it tonight!
On a completely different note. I've been given an important temporary role at work. I am going to taking over as one of the estimators at work for the next few weeks as the normal estimator takes on another temporary assignment. I have conflicting feelings about this. I mean its a very important role and I am honored they feel I am capable of handling such an important role, but it can be a very stressful role. Here's a bit of a background on what an estimator does. In short a customer asks a salesman or account rep, what the cost would be to print a certain job. The estimators role is to figure that out! It's very involved and you need to have a good knowledge of the entire print process and procedures of the company. If your quote is too high you could very easily not be awarded the job because of price. If you quote the job too low because you forgot to charge for a process in the job you could lose money on the job or worse ruining the job and end up costing the company a lot of time and money and loss of a customer. I feel I am getting a good grasp on this role now since I been training on it for the past week or so, and I am getting good feedback that I am getting the hang of it so all that's left is to do my best! Wish me luck!!
