This phone call had me frustrated for a good five minutes after it had happened, but now it just makes me laugh!
I'm at the back and I hear a page for customer service, so I get up to answer the phone:
Me: Hi, how can I help you?
Lady: I'm waiting for Tori.
Me: Tori? I'm sorry, there's no Tori working here.
Lady: No, someone named Tori called me and left a message on my machine.
Me: Are you sure it was from our store?
Lady: Yes, Hull's Bookstore. Here, listen! *proceeds to play the tail-end of a machine message. Voice on the message is that of a bubbly sounding young woman --- a voice I do not recognize. She calls herself Tori.* See! You heard it for yourself! Her name is Tori and she called from your store!
Me: I'm sorry Ma'am, but there's no Tori at this location.
Lady: Well, there must be.
Me: No, there isn't. Perhaps she called from another one of our stores?
Lady: There's another Hull's in Winnipeg?
Me: No, not in Winnipeg. There's one in Steinbach, and also Thunder Bay.
Lady: Look, a Tori left the message and she called from YOUR store. I have some pamphlets that are supposed to be sent to me. Anyhow, I'm going to go then....
Me: I've already mailed those out to you, ma'am.
Lady: Well, Tori from Hull's called me.
Me: *rolling my eyes at this point* I can safely say that there is absolutely no one here by the name of Tori. I'm sorry, but that message is not from us.
Lady: There's a Tori that works there and you don't even know it!! I'm going to go now, then!
Me: Okay, bye then.
The real funny part was when I told
davila about the call. Since she had dealt with this woman about the order, she promptly marched to the phone and proceeded to leave an extremely polite, yet firm message that there was no such person as "Tori" at our store, and that the only person who'd called her from our store was her.
I also found it extremely interesting that the woman would not play the ENTIRE message to me. She merely played the very end of it......which tells me she was looking for a fight. Trust me, we do have customers who like to do that --- and this is not the first time this woman has pulled off something like this. I don't understand *why*.....but maybe I don't want to know.
And it's not even full moon yet! Yikes!
