Dogs, cats & spiders.

Last night really wasn't my night.

At midnight I attempted to get the cat in for the night. I lured him down from the wall with ham and then picked him up, which he's normally fine with. Unfortunately the dog chose this moment to run into the garden and start barking at him, transforming the docile little thing into my arms into a hissing whirl of claws. By the time I got back in my face was dripping blood.

When I got to bed I couldn't sleep because of cramps. Went to the bathroom at 4.30 to find a huge spider. I usually make a point of facing things I'm afraid of/nervous about, but spiders are different. Spiders lead to hysterical screaming and crying fits. Eventually had to wake John up at 6 to evict it from the house.

A plus point of my sleepless night was that I got to eat breakfast in the garden as it was getting light. That and I finished The Little House by Philippa Gregory. I was very resistant to reading it because it isn't one of her historical fictions, but it turned out to be fantastic. I was tense the whole way through and the ending is so unexpected and horrible. I'd definitely recommend it. Also, I discovered today that PG has a new book on pre order at Amazon.

And on a completely unrelated note, I made an idiot of myself at the library yesterday by trying to take out books with my student card.
