TEH SERIES OF TUBES IS ALIVE AND WELL

I recently ran into a friend I hadn't seen since high school who's a member of HAAS (Huntsville-area anime club; a fun group, but since it meets on weekends, I've only been a handful of times). Mentions an art contest with the rules as follows: an illustration of Roxas or Axel (not both) playing a game with Toad and a giraffe in space or a musical featuring prominent use of jazz-hands; I chose to depcit both: Roxas, giraffe (character in One Piece, not giving spoilers), and Toad playing/performing the smash-hit broadway musical version of "Daruma-San Had Fallen Down!" (Daruma-San ga koronda; a Japanese game similar to Red-Light Green-Light).

Spent a few hours designing/sketching Wednesday, a few hours penciling and inking and Thursday, and eight straight hours last night / this morning on detailed inking and screen-tone work; I couldn't find my ink brush to fill in the emptiness of space, so I basically filled it in using a larger nib (took much longer than necessary :/ ) and also chose to work a stippled gradient around all the figures / borders of the space area (a few hours in itself and I'm not sure I even did it that well :/ ). Tone-work is the definition of tediousness, especially when working tiny patterns on a giraffe's neck. Ne'erthless I feel that I did Oda and Nomura's designs a bit of justice.

As much as we all love the sun hanging around for another hour, I don't wanna give up the hour of sleep. Grumble Grumble.

Enjoy the warm weather~
