Update on the job situation.
I got a formal offer from Kathy on Monday. A little bit of a raise, but not enough. Only 50 cents. But then when you factor in the cost of benefits, I'd actually be taking home LESS than I'm making now. We really need those benefits....but we also really need the money to pay the bills.
I scheduled some time with my boss on Tuesday and we sat down and she answered some other questions I had and I also approached the salary subject. Gad, I was so nervous doing that! I've never had to do anything like that before....guess I'm growing up now! Anyways, she totally understood where I was coming from and understood how it's a concern either way (benefits + less money or no benefits + more money). She explained that the salary was set within the guidelines for my job title (admin assistant 1), but she would definitely go back to the HR people and try to negotiate a higher salary for me. And, she also mentioned that she doesn't see me staying at the admin assistant 1 level very long, which would mean a raise when promoted to the 2 level. But in the meantime, the bills need to be paid and I don't want to turn down the benefits or else I can't enroll in them until this time next year.
No word on that yesterday, so now I just keep waiting...
