Haven't updated since I got to Minnesota. Here's the run-down of the past two weeks.
Got here on the 9th and got the trailer unpacked. Starting unpacking boxes and organizing the house. Mom and dad stayed here through the 11th to help us get settled in. Spent that week unpacking and getting settled.
Last Monday, the 16th, I started out on the job search. Started off with area staffing agencies. Dropped my resume off at one, said they'd give me a call within 24 hours. Haven't heard from them at all. Went to another one, was told I had to have an appointment before they could help me. Didn't even bother going to the third one I had planned on checking out. Came home and on their websites, I found that I had to register online before going there. Did that.
Tuesday, I met with a woman at AppleOne....which seemed a little strange to me. Had to watch a 10 minute video, did absolutely NO computer testing, and had a quick 5 minute interview with the woman so she could "get a feel" for what I was looking for. I haven't heard anything from them. On Wednesday, I met with a few people at OfficeTeam. I thought it went good. I did some computer testing there and was rated as advanced in Microsoft Word and Excel, typed 57 wpm with 99% accuracy, and my data entry skills were around 11000 kph. They seemed like they really knew what they were doing and the guy I met with there, Nick, said he had an opening that he thought would be a good fit for me. To quote him as I was leaving, "With your degree, your experience, and your outstanding testing scores, we'll have a job for you by next week." He called me later Wednesday afternoon and said I had a phone interview on Thursday with a medical lab company.
Called the company on Thursday for my phone interview. Went real well. Talked about my experiences and explained what all was required of me in my degree and in past jobs. She asked me for a face-to-face interview for Friday at noon. Went to that. Talked more about my experiences with the HR lady and the two supervisors in the areas that need an administrative assistant. I thought it went real well. They seemed to be impressed with my medical background (medical terminology and human anatomy in college), with my degree, and past administrative experience.
Just called to follow up with OfficeTeam and give them feedback on the interview as they requested. Said there was a message left for Nick from the HR lady at the company and all she said was she didn't think I'd be a good fit. Nothing more. They've been trying to reach her this morning to find out specifics on why they think I wouldn't be a good fit and they said they'd get back to me when they found out more info.
So I've gone from such a high this weekend -- thinking the interview went so well, topped with my mom and dad visiting for the weekend -- to the downer that they don't think I'd be a good fit. Job hunting sucks.
Sometimes part of me wishes we didn't move. I get so homesick for my parents, for my dog, for my grandpa (who's now in a nursing home), my aunts, uncles, and cousins, for the job I had, and for the life I left behind. It's nice having our own space, but I hate that it's in Minnesota and so far away from what still feels like home to me.
