There appears to be a rather rummy sort of meme floating around lately, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The first lines from some of my favorite books. Name the book!

Some stats: Most of them are frightfully obvious, three of them are typed from memory (0_0), five of them are children's books, two are humorous, three are considered 'classics,' four are by American authors (all children's), and four are written by men.

1. Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun.

2. Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

3. Once upon a time there were four little rabbits and their names were -- Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter.

4. An hour before sunset, on an evening of a day in the beginning of October, 1815, a man traveling afoot entered the little town of D----.

5. Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realised it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were.

6. It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

7. If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk.

8. Beep! Beep! Sheep in a jeep on a hill that's steep.

9. Rose sat all alone in the big best parlor with her little handkerchief laid ready to catch the first tear, for she was thinking of her troubles, and a shower was expected.*

10. Now, touching this business of old Jeeves -- my man, you know -- how do we stand?

* Okay, so this book is really pretty bad. But, hey! It's got incest in the sequel and I practically grew up on it.

No cheating and using google! Okay, well, I can't very well control that, but you're a supreme party pooper if you do.
