So I finally figured out how to book the rewards trip through AA for airfare, hotel , and car rental--- you do the airfare separate from the hotel. That's the only way to pay for the whole thing with just miles.
So I'm in the middle of updating my passport (I'm so bad, haven't gotten my name changed on that thing since I got married.) That being said, we need to travel in the summer before my event schedule gets hectic in September. So we're looking for a place to go in July where I don't need my passport, and we've narrowed it to either Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
I'd prefer Puerto Rico since you feel, or you ARE, in a different country, and I've never been to a Spanish-speaking country. Plus, folks from my office have all been, and I've heard great things. Only downside is, as a friend from the Texas state think tank pointed out, Caribbean is risky in summer what with the hurricanes.. but isn't that more late summer? I've been to St Croix in July and it was perfect.
Anyway, the hotels are much nicer and you get better bang for your buck in PR than Hawaii. Plus.. PR is closer--- I don't want to spend 24 hours in a plane, you know?
