Pushing up Daisy

Well first day back to work was okay. I was anxious about it since I've never been off for two entire weeks, and I began to dread returning to work since my freedom was coming to an end. I sensed it was just a negative thought in my spirit, so I prayed for it to go away, and for God to allow me to walk in victory and confidence. Monday didn't seem bad at all.

Yet I was tired. I began to yawn around 3:30 pm, and as I headed home at 4:30, all I could think about was sleeping when I got home. But Scott wasn't feeling well, so I wanted to make him a good dinner he'd enjoy. I picked up a 2 lb bag of frozen shrimp from Tom Thumb, then made one of his favorite dishes: fettucine alfredo with sauteed shrimp.

I also turned on the soaker hose in the flower beds when I got home so I could get the bedding plants watered before the hard freeze sets in Wednesday night. One way to help sustain plants through a hard freeze is to make sure they're watered and healthy. A healthy plant will survive a freeze better than a dry plant.

I've got two ornamental kale plants, a few cyclamen, and some dozenn or so pansies. The kale and the pansies seem to be doing fine, but the cyclamen is a little withered. Cyclamen, the Europeans' Christmas flower (as opposed to our Mexican poinsettia) does best in winter temperatures from 40 to 60 degrees, so it's been a bit chilled. I am not altogether sure they will make it through the winter this year.

As for the shrimp alfredo, it was indeed a hit with Scott. After dinner, I left the dishes in the sink, took a hot bath, and he and I played a game of Monopoly Deal, one of our new favorite card games. Next thing I know, it's 8:45 pm, and I'm waking up in bed next to Scott-- we had both dozed off! He can sleep all day, but I got frustrated thinking I wouldn't sleep for the rest of the night after such a long nap.

After watching the last part of the Fiesta Bowl, and letting Daisy out to pee about five times (she's suffering incontinence in her severely arthritic state), we got ready for real bed at a midnight. I took a couple of Nyquil pills to help me sleep, and Scott woke up 3 to 4 times throughout the night to continue letting Daisy outside. Poor dog. She was in so much pain last night. But it was either let her pee in our room on the carpet, or stimulate her enough to prod her to get up and go outside.

When the vet gave me pain pills to dispense to her for her arthritis, she seemed okay at first. But as the days progress, she looks and acts worse and worse. It's a shame because it's so sudden, and she's in pain. Hate to put a dog down because of month-long arthritis suffering-- it just seems so sudden, as if "Oh, one thing's wrong with her, let's put her down." But maybe she's been suffering for a long time, just not showing it until now.
