you are being hypocritical, completely. you are saying that there is no need to comment on the death of someone if there are more tragic deaths going on. yet you have never once posted about any of these massive atrocities going on throughout the world, and you did post about vonnegut who hadnt produced a top ten novel in over 10 years, and thompson who hadnt produced anything except a little blurb about john kerry since 1992...
the reason it isnt more tragic in your mind is because you are more personally attached to those two. the fact remains that both of them died in the middle of 3 massive wars, and during the current terror regimes in several countries that are much more tragic. hell, thompson killed himself, which is hardly a tragedy no matter what he was producing because he decided to go.
you have absolutely no ground to stand on when you make comments like "I'd comment on other, bigger, things going on in the world before the death of Michael Jackson." even though you commented on other smaller things going on like the deaths of vonnegut and thompson. you feel they were bigger because of your personal connection with them. look at the news that MJ is getting compared to the two of them combined and you tell me what the bigger story is.
when did i say something about being personal about opinions?
regardless, im not being defensive about it, but i simply cant stand the fact that you are taking some sort of moral high ground about only talking about the hard hitting news, and would never comment on a celebrity dying when in fact you never do talk about the hard hitting news and you have talked about celebrities dying on here
no one said anything of importance, you said bigger story. big = popular, the news obviously will broadcast the most popular story for ratings.
either way, you are completely ignoring all of the real points i made in the comment. i take this to mean that you agree with me, and you admit you are being a hypocrite, posting about celebrity deaths over more tragic events is something we have both done
No, I do not agree with you, I just see this conversation as an increasing waste of my energy, I'd prefer to do something productive and years have taught me that compromise is impossible and it just turns into fighting, and consider this also applicable to the other ongoing dialogue we have.
