I cant believe the lack of talk amongst people i know about michael jackson dying... and none of you have posted anything about it either!!
this man was arguably the best performer of all time, and arguably the best pop artist of all time (they say elvis is the king of rock, but he played pop songs. MJ actually wrote most of his songs, which makes him much more rock in my eyes then elvis, but his music obviously is pop).
He is easily one of my top 10 favorite artists, and the man changed the face of music as much as anyone ever has and ever will.
Seriously, who hasnt tried to moonwalk? who hasnt grabbed their crotch and screamed, or done a 'schamon', or an "ooh ooh!"
the first recorded music i ever purchased on my own was "bad" on cassette tape, from an Arbors drug store, which dont even exist anymore. I listened to it so much that my mom bought me another one a few months later.
in terms of world sales, "thiller" is the number one selling album of all time (the eagles greatest hits is the greatest selling album in this country, but thiller is still the best selling LP). and it outsells #2 (which is "back in black" by AC/DC) by almost 3x. oh, and "bad", "off the wall" and "dangerous" all sold more than 20 million copies. (the beatles and elvis would probably top him in these categories, but they recorded before LPs were invented, they released singles and B-sides.)
He was the greatest, and I am proud to say that I own several of his albums, listen and dance to them all the time, and have requested "PYT" at every wedding Ive ever been to because it is one of my favorite songs of all time!
I was stoked last year when he said he was going on tour again, and I was planning on going if he came anywhere near Detroit, no matter the cost.
But all anyone can talk about his the stuff he was never convicted of doing with boys. I think he did it, but crucifying someone on something that a group of people who saw much more evidence than any of us saw agreed he did not do is simply beyond me. regardless, his personal has nothing to do with his professional life, and this man was simply the greatest rock star i have ever witnessed.
RIP MJ, you will be missed
