for all you Obama supporters... i have a question

Dec 07, 2008 12:33

doesnt it concern you that Obama is keeping current defense secretary Robert Gates?

it should, if you paid attention to Obama's campaign for more than 5 seconds.

I heard Obama talk more about opposing Bush's plan in Iraq, and current defense strategies than any of his other stupid policies, like his ill-thought out tax plan that would increase our deficit by a couple trillion bucks.

and now, all of a sudden he is in concert with the guy who set up and enacted all of the current administrations plans regarding national defense and iraq?

WHAT?!

it might not concern you all too much about what some of those policies are, Bush had set up a timetable for removing troops from Iraq already (oh, you didnt hear that one? no you probably didnt because this country has been so focused on bashing bush that no one takes the time to figure out what he is actually doing), etc.

but the scary thing is that Obama isnt even in office yet and he is already doing the opposite of what he talked about doing in his campaign.

and really, i think it is a political move just to keep the repubs happy by doing something that has never been done before in the history of the presidential cabinet, keep the incumbent defense secretary.

so, is this obama realizing he was wrong during his campaign on certain issues, but is upholding his major theme of working together in a non-partisan way? or is this obama flip flopping on major election issues before he is even sworn in? or is this just the continuation of the political games obama played while he was a senator: doing whatever he can to be seen as a good president, while doing little to actually become a good anything?

so for all of you who voted for obama, please read the following article written by Gates himself in the most recent Foriegn Affairs Magazine here: http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20090101faessay88103-p0/robert-m-gates/a-balanced-strategy.html

and tell me how he isnt talking about the following things that Obama was dead set against in his campaign:

-expelling resources in dedicating time to broadening scope of defense from simple counter-insurgencies to conventional warfare from conventional military powers

-allocating resources to develop security infrastructure and capacities of ally nations

and most importantly

-integrating military efforts with civilian departments, namely: the state department.

i really do hope this guy is a GREAT president. but when you get elected by such a majority of people who simply want a change, what good is it to stay the course on such a controversial issue as defense and iraq

of course those happen to be two things i am in huge opposition to, hah
