My poor little car Minty is an economic write off, which means she will actually cost more to repair than she is worth, so the insurance company won't pay to have her fixed. There was actually damage to the back metal panel under that smashed bumper, and its that which will cost too much to put right... Zac's Dad's friend Steve says she could be repaired by him for about £175, but since she has been in an accident she has to be re-registered and re-MOT'd (lots of pennies!!!)... and then there is always the risk that there is damage to some other part, that could develop into something more serious later on.
My Ocelot is also a little bit smashed up, and is suffering from back and neck pains (whiplash) The solicitors are onto it... so he should get the treatment he needs to put it right, and possibly we'll get a payout too.
In good news, they valued Minty at £450... which I think is damn generous for a 15 yr old car, 80,000+ miles, no power steering, no central locking... And since she is a write off I'll get back that money to put towards a new car. We'll probably buy her back as salvage for £50 and then either sell her on to Steve for £60 (keeping the shiny MP3 playing radio, and cashing in my tax disc) or Zac reckons we could get around £100 selling her for scrap. So its worth doing that.
Of course I'd rather none of this had happened in the first place, but it hasn't worked out so bad in the end.
