Neji grunts as he feels Shikamaru come off of him and just cathes himself before his chin hits the floor.
Proping his head up with his elbows, Neji gazes over at the wimpering Shikamaru with a bewildered look, while Nobu sat on his head with quite the smug look on his little bat face.
Neji then realizes that something is on his head and knows instantly that it's Nobu, but he could fathem why SHikamaru would act that way towards him... unless...
Neji quickly grabs Nobu off of his head and seeing that he had guessed right, fixed him with a stern look.
"Nobu, you must really have it out for Shikamaru to stoop so low." Neji told him, annoyed.

"Now change this instant, or you'll find yourself out in the col-" Neji didn't finish his statement for he then realized that it wasn't that cold anymore, and in fact one could almost say that it was warm out and increasing in temperature every minute.

Even though Neji didn't finish his statement, Nobu got the hint and changed into a ferret and scurried up onto Neji's shoulder to smirk somemore at the cowering Shikamaru.

Shikamaru is unaware of his surroundings as he shivers, caught in the shock of seeing a 'bat' up close. Small, unintelligible whimpers come from him as he wraps his arms around his knees and rocks, naked, against the wall.

Neji was completely baffled by Shikamaru's behavior. Showing fear so openly is unsightly for a ninja and dangerous. He would have to help Shikamaru overcome this fear, but for now he decided that he would just try to figure out a way to get Shikmaru back to using his senses.

Neji moves over to Shikamaru, glaring at Nobu, who retreated to the pile of cloths at the glare, and sat next to him, slightly confused as to what to do. Comforting a person was definitly not a strong point of Neji's.

After a couple of minutes of just sitting next to him, Neji realized that Shikamaru was not going to come back to reality on his own and moved so that he was pressed up against him as much as he could and hesitantly put an arm behind Shikamaru's head and drew it under his chin, while he secured Shikamaru within a hug and started to soothingly stroke his hair.

Shikamaru came back to himself a semi-short in Neji's lap with Neji stroking his hair. He let himself enjoy it for a few moments before saying anything.
"I was gone for a while, wasn't I?" he asked, voice quiet.

[native_neji]

"Yes, you were... but for now, your back and that's all that matters."
Neji replied relieved and still stroking Shikamaru's hair.

"Sorry.......It hasn't happened since the academy. Iruka~sensei had to get another Chuunin to sub because of me..." Shikamaru's voice is low, with a hint of shame to it...

"What exactly happened for you to be so afraid of bats?" Neji asks, still stroking his hair.

[kage_master]

"You know my clan raises deer, right? Well, in one of the paddocks, there's a cave system. When I was five, I was helping my father take care of the heard in that area. I had wondered away from him, and I went into the caves. One of the floors was weak and collapsed, dropping me into a lower level. That cave was full of bats, and my...'entrance' stirred them all up. I was swarmed by bats. Needless to say, it was not a pleasant time to be me until my dad found me...."
Shikamaru stumbled through the speech, shaking slightly as he described the fall through the cave floor.

Neji spread his legs and pulls Shikamaru into him as he wraps his arms around him and rests his chin on the top of Shikamaru's head.
"...It sounds like you had a pretty bad experience, but you should really try to get over this fear of yours, for it can be very dangerous to be so scared of something that you loose all sense of reality. Imagine if you were on a mission and ended up in a cave fighting a rouge ninja and you noticed that there were bats in there... you could... *pauses and shudders at the though* die in a situation like that..." Neji trails off gripping Shikamaru tighter to him and shivers from the thought.

Shikamaru leans into Neji, trying to sooth them both.
"I've tried for a long time. Asuma~sensei helped a little bit, that's why I was even able to come into this cave at all."

[native_neji]

Neji sighs as Shikamaru leans into him and then after a couple of minutes of silence, Neji tilts Shikamaru's head back slightly so that he could look him in the eyes.
"You know I'll always be here for you... so if you ever need a shoulder to lean on, let me know and I'll be your living support."

[kage_master]

Shikamaru gives a small smile and nods, making a small noise of appreciation.
"I know." His eyes shine slightly and he gives Neji a gentle kiss. "Thank you."

[native_neji]

Neji gives Shikamaru a tender kiss of his own and offers up a small encouraging smile.
"No need to say thank-you... after all... that's what a boyfriend's for... right?" Neji blushes slightly, having a hard time believeing that he had actually said that.

[kage_master]

Shikamaru grinned at Neji's statement.
"I think that's the first time I've heard you use that word in the context of us.: He lightly poked the tip of Neji's nose with a finger. "You're blushing again."

[native_neji]

Neji's blush deepens as he scowls and looks away.
"Yeah, well... I just can't seem to help it when I'm around you." Neji mumbles.

Shikamaru shifts so he give a kiss to both of Neji's blush-stained cheeks.
"I know, and I told you that I would make you blush at every opportunity. You are really cute when you're face goes red."
