Slipping into the darkness felt like nothing worse than falling into a dreamless sleep. Even the pain of taking her life couldn't mar that. She hoped to find a forgiving God awaiting on the other side, to see the faces of those she'd loved and who'd loved her in life.
Instead, she awakened to the red half light of a moon in eclipse. Instead of the face of God, she looked up into the pale face of a man who looked like some cruel angel. He took her hand, lifting her from the cold earth, back to her wretched life.
