They trembled as they crossed over. Even when he approached them in the most reassuring way, even when he offered a gentle arm around the shoulder or a hand on theirs, they would recoil in fear. The very thought of dying, of leaving their world, everyone and everything in it behind, left them panicking. And he would do whatever he needed to see that they crossed over willingly if not happily.
Fortunately they often found themselves drawn to him, with his pretty face and kind approach. Many took some coaxing, but soon took his hand, letting him lead them across...
