[Neon Genesis Evangelion] "Girl Time" (PG)
Author's Note: Written for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Asuka/Rei, sleepover Might be set in the Rebuild, the "Angelic Days" or the "Shinji Ikari Raising Project" universe. Operating word being "might"...
"You mean you've never been to a sleepover at anyone's house?" Asuka demanded. "How'd you get to be fifteen and you've never had a sleepover?"
"Commander Ikari never said I could. Neither has Dr. Akagi," Rei replied, stating the facts.
"Well, that's just like the grown ups: they're either not letting you have any fun, or they forget to tell you that you can," Asuka snapped. Rei looked at her, rather abashed, but the redhead continued, a shade calmer now. "Why don't you come over to our place tonight? Misato's got some kind of boring overnight work to do and Shinji will stay out of the way if I just look at him wrong."
"We have assignments..." Rei hedged.
"Oh, we can get those done together: it'll make the work go faster and then we can have some fun afterwards," Asuka argued.
Rei considered this for a long moment. "Okay." She didn't sound very convinced, but then again, Rei rarely sounded more than deadpan half the time.

Rei arrived punctually at seven that evening. After toiling through the assignments (Rei helping Asuka muddle through the kanji), Asuka dug out some bottles of nail polish and a manicure kit.
"What's this?" Rei asked, her crimson eyes narrowed, puzzled.
"You've never seen an manicure kit? Hasn't Ritsuko taught you anything about making yourself up?" Asuka asked.
"No, she hasn't: it doesn't seem necessary," Rei replied, as Asuka took one of the pale girl's hands and starting to shape the nails with a glass nail file.
"Well, if anyone needs their nails done, it's you: your hands are pretty, but they'd be nicer if you took better care of your nails," she said.
Rei looked at her, surprise showing in her usually blank eyes. "You think they do?"
"Of course: you're odd to look at, but you're rather pretty. You just need to maintain yourself better," Asuka said.
