best bud

So my best friend Ed came to visit me on Monday for 4 days. And by best friend I mean all time best since I was 4 years old. I think that is pretty rare. We went to kindergarten together and his parents still live down the street from my parents, so they are like my extended family, and I pretty much consider him a brother.

He was the best man at my wedding, and during speeches is came out that we have known each other and been best friends for 30 years now. I had never really considered the scope of that, but from what I gather from the reaction of my guests with all the "wows" and "holy craps" we heard, I guess it is a rare thing to be best friends for 30 years when we are 34 years old.

So he came to down, and naturally we had the best time. I said goodbye to the wife for a few nights and we went out and went to a brewery tour, to a thrashers game and lots of late night fun.

Ed had mentioned that he still did not get us a wedding gift. I told him long ago not to, because well to say he spent a few thousand on me during my Vegas bachelor party would be putting it lightly, so I insisted before the wedding that no gift was needed.

But, he goes out and buys me a Sony Play Station 3 regardless, along with the HD expander pack. I didn't know this gift existed because he went and got it while I was at work and left it in the closet in our guest room. Man what a guy. I mean it's a drop in the bucket for him as he is loaded, but still, he wanted me to have it, and when I called him to thank and yell at him he just told me to enjoy. I'm a lucky guy to have a best friend like Ed.

Since he gave us a gift receipt though, we are actually going to return it and exchange it for a Wii. Michelle isn't into gaming much, to be honest neither am I, but the Wii is something we both have kind of wanted, and Michelle really wants the Wii fit. I think he got the PS3 because I had mentioned looking at Blu Ray players, and the PS3 has one built in, so it's the best of both worlds. Oh well, I'll still get a Blu Ray one of these days.

Tiger Woods golf anyone! :)
