It's kind of strange, really, but I am not a big fan of going to movies.
I used to go; Freshman and sophomore years in college, it seemed that was all we did. My first date with my (now) wife was to go see Good Morning Vietnam. I saw Apollo 13 twice, and Spaceballs three times. I laughed my ass off watching The Full Monty before everyone else knew about it.
But somewhere along the line, I simply stopped wanting to go out to the movies. Or watch movies at all, really. (I do like watching trailers, however, which probably says more about the quality of trailers than anything else.
I'd like to say that it's something simple, such as my mind rebelling against the cost of watching a flick, but that doesn't explain my reticence toward watching movies on DVD.
Maybe it has something to do with the passive nature of video entertainment, where you're not actively involved in a story as opposed to gaming or reading. I also like going out to concerts, which are more active than watching a movie. (Yes, even going to the symphony is an active experience.) Regardless, I've found that I don't watch much of anything outside of some sports, science/PBS style shows, and the Big Bang Theory. I often wonder if I'm really missing anything, but I don't feel like it. About the only thing I suspect I am missing out on is the geeking out that I could be doing with friends over a flick, but that's kind of a 'meh' transitory thing anyway.
