We've reached that part of the school year when the kids have gotten fully immersed into their band lessons. (Strings/orchestra is still a ways away, since the school district cut strings for elementary schools, but our elementary school is attempting to hire a strings teacher in an after school capacity.)
That said, we now have two kids playing band instruments: one flute (and when her lessons start, one oboe), and one saxophone.
The flute, I'm used to. The sax? Wow, is that loud.
Our youngest complained loudly when my son started his sax practice, and when I pointed out that he couldn't practice in his room for fear of deafening the hamsters, she stormed up the stairs and marched into his room, slamming the door behind her.
Well, in her defense, she does kind of feel left out of playing an instrument, particularly since she's two years away from being eligible for band. (We're taking care of that, however, by looking into piano lessons for her.)
As for me, I retreated to the outside and cut the grass instead.
