Zendikar

for those of you keeping up with the latest spoilers, what is your opinion on the latest surprise?
I won't even hint at it for those who've some how managed to not have it spoiled yet, but if you know what I'm referring to, I'm curious as to your opinion.

I'm of course referring, not to any zendikar cards, but to the vintage cards that have been snuck into the booster packs of zendikar.

for those of you with cases on preorder, best of luck to you. I'm too broke to go that big. but had I the money, this would've been the set to blow it all on cases. it seems the potential to open an unlimited black lotus in a pack is insane! one booster could pay for the entire case and then some! I'll be getting my fat pack and crying softly with my instigator and cobra.

money.

Amazing how all of the sudden, you can't find a box online for less than 100 dollars, where normally you can get them pre-ordered for like 85.

Needless to say, I bought a 100 dollar box of cards today, and I pray to rip open money myself. Hoping for something worth trading for a set of original dual lands for my cube :D

Statistically speaking, about one in twenty boxes of packs has a treasure inside. I don't see why they'd be in such high demand. I would be thrilled to open one, but the odds aren't good enough to make me buy extra packs.

This.
I mean, I've bought boxes hoping to get one or two of any given rare. M.Rares are bad enough, but this is just not worth changing your behavior for.

Which is not to say I don't think it's cool as hell, and a long time coming. It's just, yeah, not a good enough deal to drive up box prices by $15 or whatever. I think they should do this for every set though. Just enough to keep vintage alive.

Some friends and I are splitting a case, we're each getting a box and a half.

Screw WoTC for engineering this Blatant Thievery of their loyal fanbase?

Are sales down so far that they need to spice up pack sales like this?

Nonetheless... I'm sure I will open two or three boxes in hopes of finding something. I usually go on ebay and find people selling playsets of all Commons and Uncommons for the new sets, but I haven't bought anything but the singles I've needed for decks since Planar Chaos.

It's a gimmick and something I hated the idea of when I heard of it last month. I'm amazed at how many people missed it and all the references to it (e.g. http://www.wizards.com/dci/downloads/MTG_MTR_1Oct09_EN.pdf, http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/274... )

do tell do tell! seriously though, what do you know?

I've been away from the game for a long time, like 10 years. I just got back into it 3 or 4 months ago and I've been pretty excited about it, as I really like what I see in shards block and M10. Zendikar is looking even more fun to play with. I don't have the history most of you have with magic, but should I not invest my time? Is it going down a road that'll disappoint me? I was really into the idea of getting into competitive magic in the long term.
