As I recall, there is a quote from Tennant (at the stage door in Stratford) saying he didn't see the point to a DVD as that would invalidate the "theater experience."
So ... that may be where some of the finger-pointing is coming from.
Was going to do an update last night, but ended up reading and falling asleep.
X-ray was negative for pneumonia, so that's cleared up. But ... asthmatic bronchitis still in full force, so he switched my antibiotic to yet another wide-spectrum and put me on a heavier dose of Prednesone (god, and I said I'd never take that stuff again -- urg, bet I get moon-face). I feel enough better today after two days of it (I think I started at 60 mg and am at 40 today) that I actually got up by 2pm (which ain't bad given I hadn't fallen asleep till 6am) and have been playing Warcraft this evening. :)
I guess I'm getting better since I feel like killing things, eh? Hah!
So sorry to hear about your wrist! What sort of operation are they looking at?
Urg. You have roid rage! *grins* I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
Cystectomy, most likely. I don't think it's tendon rupture, but I can't rule it out either. I managed to tweak the digitis indicis minimus in training, but that was an obvious deficit in the range of motion. I had a cystectomy of the right wrist in 2003 and again in 2004, so that's what it is, most likely. Just on the other side, this time.
Ouch. Wrist surgery is no fun. Had a de Quervainn's tenosynovitis a number of years back (brilliant surgeon; alas left the area and went down to a posh practice in NC) and was frustrated how long it took to get back strength in that hand/wrist. I hope you're able to do it sooner rather than later, but I do understand having to go take care of family.
Up-thread you mentioned something about GM being besieged at the stage door this week? Hadn't run across it (and Google News isn't helping me). Sounds like part of the fan crowds this week at the Novello, eh? Such a shame. And I'm sure he didn't stop to autograph tonight, but last night one can't imagine any of them really wanted to.
Right now, it just plain hurts. Sometimes it wakes me up, which sort of stinks. There's a fairly subtle mass there, which makes me think cyst. But, as you say, there's no way I can help out my mother with my arm splinted and in a sling, so... *shrugs* It'll wait.
She picked him up in her car after Friday night's performance. Didn't get out of the car - I'm sure it was terrifying.

Hadn't heard about this m'self, but I can hardly blame her. Besides, if the point was to try to get him out of there, her parking and getting out of the car would've made everything just take that much longer.
Saw it, with the accompanying explanation that he wanted to spend some more time with his dad and have a place to crash there. Makes me wonder how much his dad gets bugged.
DT seems, from what we've seen in stuff like the diaries and WDYTYA, like a good son, and he genuinely wants to be able to spend more time with his dad.
Having said that, it's also a good place to get the hell out of dodge if/when London gets too bugnuts. He kinda had a built-in getaway in Cardiff up until now.
Yes, I totally agree, but it's his dad he wants to spend time with, not the paps. I'm guessing they know exactly where his dad lives, which is why I wonder how much he gets bugged.
My sister had a cystectomy on her wrist years back; fortunately she's not had a recurrence, but she also avoided taking jobs similar to the one that caused the problem... which is one thing when you're switching from low-level clerical involving typing to retail managerial with no typing, but not really an option in medicine.

I can see that being a very valid argument while the play was still running, which is when people originally started clamoring for a DVD to be rushed to market. And it is certainly not the same as seeing it live, but as a fundraising tool for the RSC alone it would be worth its weight in gold.
Well, that's certainly my feeling, but some actors really don't like to see a filmed production done of something that was done by them live. Staging for a filmed version is very different than the live experience, and switching to it would require a whole different mindset. Plus, the audience doesn't get the energy feedback you get when it's live, so ... I can sort of see his point.
Yet, I hope it's not his objection that's holding weight. I'd rather blame Auntie Beeb. :)

Did you see the news he was picking up a flat/house in Glasgow? I have some thoughts. (Beyond the obvious.)

Unless he's moved away from the home that was shown pretty clearly in WDYTYA, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
