Alright, before you run away because you saw the subject of this entry again, I must justify my actions (ok, I don't but I will anyways). It's been nearly two months since my last post and the subject of the new one is cars again. I find nothing compelling about writing my woes away complaining about finals, classes, or worrying about my SAT scores. I see no point in it, so therefore, I will write about my dreams, my visions, and my lust (for cars of course). This is more relaxing than ranting (ok, I'm still ranting, just not angrily). Anywho, on to the epitome of literature, the peak of prose, and the all-around god of magazines: evo.
I just got around to reading the Car of the Year issue (or eCotY, short for...you guessed it...evo Car of the Year). Wow. That one word pretty much sums it up. Fifty-five pages of writing worthy of any literature class, evocative (hehe there's an evo in there), inspiring, and simply beautiful.
The way eCotY works is there are two classes: the 'realistic' class and the supercar class. The top two finalists in the realistic section move on to face the supercars and duke it out for the ultimate grace: evo Car of the Year. The two winners of the realistic class were the BMW M3 CS, and the Renault Clio Trophy. The Beemer is getting older (a replacement is due later this year), but with around 340 horses, it pulls no punches. The Renault is a spunky little hatch with nearly 190 horsepower. At the top of my list, representing the big guns, were the Ferrari F430 (not just an evo favorite, an evo obsession), the Ford GT (beautiful retro styling with some 550 horses coming from a supercharged V8), the Lamborghini Gallardo (V10...need I say more), and the TVR Sagaris (radical turbo'ed V6, even more radical styling).
By the end of the article, I felt as though I had driven each and every car, and thus had created my own scoresheet. At the top of my list, in no particular order, were the Ford GT, the Gallardo, the F430, and the V8 Vantage (my current user pic). The Ford GT was there for its superb handling, immense power, and amazing styling. The Gallardo, for its stunning looks and raw V10 (think blue flames from the tailpipes). The F430 has long been a dream car and hell, it's a Ferrari. The V8 Vantage, though flawed, is so beautiful I couldn't keep it off the list.
In the end, the Ford GT won, followed by the F430, and then, amazingly, the Renault Clio Trophy.
Because I actually want people to read this, I will tell you what my weekend was like:
Saturday: Theater, saw Date Movie, globowling
Sunday: Headed out for Princeton, read evo all the way there, took a tour of the college, headed off to Lehigh
Monday: Toured Lehigh, started home, read evo all the way home, now sitting here typing
Tuesday: Theater, might actually do something social
I will now leave you with the image of a flame spitting, $300,000 Ferrari supercar being chased by a $25,000 hot hatch through the winding mountains of France.
