When we last saw the Batavus family, it was springtime and, appropriately, full of change. Summer finds them in a much more placid pattern of life. Let's take a look...
Dear Penelope is using the season to get into shape... though her jogging is just as much about surveying the town as it is about fitness. Rumors have been circulating about a
new group of teens in Sainte-Margo, and Penelope is anxious to meet some kids her own age!
Until then, she'll always have her siblings. She never stops being glad that Piet is still just next door.
I find it very appropriate that the daughter of Ste-Margo's founder has a LTW to become a city planner! It's the perfect blend of her artistic talents and her mother's political drive. I'm not sure how we'll get her there, since the official rules require both a downtown and a university, but we'll see.
Batavus Fish Market time! And guess who the first customer of the day is?
Marco Castaway! Penelope's joy at meeting a teen overflows into what may not be the... most appropriate greeting in the world.
"Dude! For real?"
But Penelope just can't help herself. When your closest social role model is Piet, you're bound to be a little awkward when meeting new people.
Proof that Frida is a consummate politician: one of her greatest fears is falling out with Amy Tang. !!!!
Not one to hold a grudge, Marco comes over the next afternoon, along with his makeshift family of Castaways. He's kind of dreamy, isn't he?
And yet, I have other... plans for Penelope. (Must. Preserve. The Red. Hair.) Hello, Mr. Jayne Castaway!
Una Castaway does not approve of Penelope's dance moves and isn't afraid to show it.
But there's nothing quite like a group smustle to smooth over initial awkwardness. Piet looks on approvingly.
Hee! But seriously, he's really happy for his little sister. He remembers how lonely it was to grow up without young folk in town.
Night falls and love blooms!
I love how different their faces are. (Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbies.)
Meanwhile, Piet makes himself useful inside while hanging out with his little bro.
Yay! Penelope and Jayne!
The next day at school is really The Best for Penelope. Not only is she demolishing her courses, she now has new friends and a new beau to look forward to every day.
Una stops by to dish, and Penelope fills her in on her mother's future mayoral path.
Then, I accidentally clicked Hug>Romantic instead of Friendly, and...
... yeah. So there's that. Not part of the plan! It seems Penelope may be destined to follow her brother's footsteps when it comes to sexual confusion and awkwardness. You goofballs!
Mel and Frida are climbing up their respective career ladders at a fairly good pace, but will it be quick enough to unlock their daughter's dream job?? Frida's promotion also unlocks the politics career for the town, though she seems to be the only resident with much interest in it for now.
Hi, Wim!
That bitch!
Frida needs to build her Logic skill to move up the next rung toward her goal, so she starts devoting some serious time to the chess table.
Better watch out, Mel!
She is not messing around.
Wim is such a dork. "Hi, Mom!!" Oh, how Piet has left his mark on the younger Batavus children!
Penelope joins her mother, and as they do most mornings, these two beautiful ladies share their big dreams for their little town!
Evil dreams? No, not really. They're just basking in the knowledge of their shared power and confidence.
I mean, really, just look at this pair of HBICs!
And that does it for the Batavus's first summer in Sainte-Margo. Coming up, MAJOR drama in the Batavus/Mead household!
