This weekend was "interesting." It started off mid-week with me making 13 posters for our club booth at the International Dog Show and K9 Fest, then a horrific trip through traffic to Puyallup on Friday. Saturday dawned with beautiful weather and a mad dash in the early AM back to Puyallup. Actually, I got up and ready in plenty of time, but had go back home when after I got on the freeway, 'cause I forgot something.
I finally get both dogs and all the stuff unloaded and set up ring side. The International Dog association is rather interesting. It is judged by AKC judges who actually take time to write out critiques for each dog. I'm not convinced the titles really mean anything, but the written information is interesting.
Loki managed to win Best of Breed in both shows on Sat., much to my total surprise. He got medals and everything. He didn't do anything in group, but when an Eskie takes group, hell gets just a tad chilly!
Our Eskie club sponsored a booth at the K9 Fest to promote the breed, so I volunteered to work the booth during the last hour for one of our members who had to dash out of the show to go to dinner in Seattle. I'm all settled in behind the booth when she comes storming in because they had towed her van. To make a long story short - she was really pissed as it turned out to be an illegal tow. She had to get someone to take her to Tacoma to get her car and I took her passenger and all the dogs back to Seattle.
Sunday: Meghan decides to go with me and we left around 7:30 - pouring rain. We get to the show and unload. By the time we are in the arena we are soaking wet (in a red dirt (mud) arena (covered, thank the gods). Loki didn't win BOB on Sunday but that was OK with me because we couldn't stay for group, however, he did get the rating he needed and is now an International Champion, for what it's worth. I had to be in Tacoma by 1:00 because we were supposed to pick up our new motorhome.
Here is where the snarls come in. Meghan, Alan and I all meet in Tacoma and the damn guy at the mororhome place tells us we can't pick it up because they don't have techs on Sunday. I had called and made an appointment early last week for Sunday at 1:00. The dimwit who made the appointment remains free only because I didn't get a name when I called. Sure wish I could get my hands on him, not only did we not get to pick up the motorhome, I had to miss the last show, and leave the Fest before it was over. I was NOT a happy camper! Now we have an appointment for Wednesday at 1:00, and it had better be ready!
The dog show really screwed up my back again. As of today, I can barely stand up and walking is problematical. I sure as hell with it would stop hurting and get well, but that doen't look like it's going to happen anytime real soon. This flareup, it is as bad or worse than it was the first time - Argh!
So, smiles for Loki's wins and snarls for motorhome and back, but yes, the smiles are worth the snarls, if I had to choose.
