Skunk Eyes

Banzai's been barfing in the morning. I'm not a vet, but I'm ruling out morning sickness. I don't watch him every minute he goes out for his morning tinkle (that's me, trying to be more ladylike and not say piss), but my guess is that he's eating grass and doing a little system flush.

He and Wilbur and I had a walk tonight. Wilbur tripped going over a curb and had a few moments of panic where I strongly suspect he was remembering the two times his knees blew out. Every time he's twisted a leg or stumbled since his knee surgeries, he's stopped, held the sore foot up, and waited for me to check him over and say he's OK before he'll put it down again. So I gave his leg and foot a patdown and told him he seemed to be OK. He didn't want to put weight on it right away, but me pestering him with questions about whether his foot hurt or his knee or his kneebow hurt was more annoying than putting weight on it, so he shut me up by acting like he was perfectly fine and there was no need to keep discussing it. He did let me know that yes, it would be nice if we could walk a little slower, please. Since I was asking.

Banzai saw skunks twice and desperately wanted to go play with them until their insides were spread out everywhere. We both saw the first one waddling around down by the opposite side of the creek. Waddle waddle waddle. Places to go, dumpsters to root around. G'bye, skunk! The second time he did the high alert posture, I didn't see a damned thing down by the creek bank. I stared right where he was staring and saw nothing. Wilbur was completely uninterested in what we were staring at. I told Banzai I thought he was being a dork, staring at a rock, cuz I didn't see anything. He huffed and kept staring. I finally saw the rock move and it was black on the sides and white down the middle. Oh! Yes, that IS a skunk! Which he already knew. The skunk couldn't make up its mind where it wanted to go, so we stood and watched while it hemmed to the left and hawed to the right and back again, and finally went uphill a few feet and disappeared into a drainage pipe. Goodnight, skunk!

Banzai also got to jump in the water and yell SURPRISE! at a mated pair of ducks. They weren't happy to see him.

In other doggy news, the neighbor kids came over after school to go walk their dogs, but I had to go to work. I was really bummed to have to tell them I couldn't do it. Maybe tomorrow. Stud Dog's name is Tyson. Cuz he's a boxer. I did get a chance to talk to one of the kids about dog body language and how to tell when they're smiling. She wasn't hugely interested, but she listened.

so good with children, doggehs, banzai!, wilbur
