It was a cold and blustery day but that didn't stop You-know-who from going outside to change her rear struts, spark plugs and lug posts. Knowing it would take the most time, she started with the struts. After jacking the car up, removing the tire and sizing all her sockets and wrenches, she laid the tools all out within reach and began to disassemble the strut assembly. Suddenly she realized that she would need a 15/16 deep-well socket to remove the mounting bracket and her 15/16 just wasn't deep enough to do the job. As she sat Indian-style on the ground trying to decide what to do, clouds began to roll in. She finally decided to try to call her dad to see if he had a 15/16 deep-well socket for her to use. He apologized and explained that all of his deep well sockets were still at the house in Michigan with the rest of his tools. As she realized she would have to put the wheel back together and drive into the nearest town to buy a 15/16th deep well socket, her dad then remembered he had a deep well impact wrench set and believed there was a 15/16 socket in that set but it was locked away in the shed and she didn't have a key. As she resigned herself to the drive into town, the ever-darkening clouds decided to burst forth dropping fat globs of very cold rain on her and everything she had so carefully set out to do her job. With a sigh, she thanked her dad and put everything back together in the rain. She'd have to save it for another not-so-rainy day....
So with that said, hmmm. Maybe I'll be able to get my website move finished today. *fingers crossed* Looks like I'm getting charged double for it because Yahoo doesn't respond to requests from registrars to transfer services. So, I'm going to get smacked with their $35 renewal fee and I've already paid my $16 renewal fee to the new registrar. Totally sucks. I HATE Yahoo. I can't wait to get my site up and running on the new server so I can cut all ties to them. I'm even thinking of ditching my email account with them that I've had for ...erm... 14 years?!? It was the mid 1990s, back when they bought out Geocities. Anyway, I'm very Anti-Yahoo now. I’m definitely moving my primary email away from them at the very least. I guess I can keep the account so old friends can still get in touch with me but I'll turn it into a pop account and retrieve it from my email with my new server.
I never noticed how much I lick or chew on my lips until this week. The other day, when I was on my way out to pick up the parts for my car, I stopped by the post office to send out a package. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I saw the person next to me get out of their car and I recognized her. She was one of my regulars at my last cafe. So, I backed up and parked and got out of my car just as she was coming back out. We hugged and chatted for a few moments. It was really nice to see her. I gave her my email address and we both headed off because we had schedules to keep. My seat belt doesn't always retract and sometimes ends up hanging outside the door. I didn't look this time and just reached down to grab the belt. It was not only hanging down but twisted so I grabbed the wrong part of the strap as I pulled it up towards my shoulder. The buckle flipped up in the air and hit me right in the mouth. My eyes teared up and the pain throbbed with each heartbeat. My tooth had cut open the inside of my mouth and I was no where near anywhere that sold ice or cold beverages. I didn't want a big fat lip so I was trying to find something cold to put on my lip. The only thing I could find was an empty Altoids container. Remembering the trick of putting a spoon in the freezer to help stop bruising when you get hurt, I put the can on my lip. When it warmed up, I'd rotate it to a cooler part and keep doing that process until the whole can was warm. Then I held it out the window into the cool rainy day and when it was chilled, pressed it to my lip again.
So, the crazy lady was driving down the street with a mouth full of blood and an Altoids can on her face but at least the bruising is minimal as is the lump. Still, whenever I lick my lips or go to chew on the inside of my mouth, something I do when I am thinking to help lubricate the gears in my head I guess, I feel it. Ouch. Still, It's nothing compared to the time I was replacing the radiator and thermostat in my roommate’s car and a retaining clip broke as I tried to unscrew it. Because of the angle I was working, the screwdriver bounced back and went into my lower lip. Too stubborn to go to the E.R., I put a butterfly bandage on it and went about my day. When that proved ineffectual (the wound kept popping open), I bought some Superglue and glued it shut. That did the trick. Since that time, if I have a puncture wound or deep cut that I don’t feel is bad enough for stitches, I’ll just Superglue it shut.
As my best friend would say, ‘You’re such a woman!’ :D
